Confusion

Trying to navigate the “best” things we can do for our health and fitness is a nightmare.

With the amount of information that is being put out on every topic, among the fact that most of that information contradicts one another, it really couldn’t be more confusing.

What is the best diet?

What is the best exercise routine?

What is the best form of cardio?

In the 80s and 90s they said we should eat low fat.

A few years ago we heard carbs were bad.

What about veganism gaining major popularity?

Or even carnivore styles of eating

That is just on the nutrition front, what about exercise?

Is weight training good or bad?

High reps or low reps?

Are squats bad for my knees?

Are deadlifts bad for my back?

The biggest issue I see with all of this is the black and white nature of all these statements. Things are either good or bad. Right or

wrong.

Carbs are bad.

High reps are good.

Squats are bad.

Cardio is good.

Whatever the example we want to highlight, the things we see and read don’t tend to take any opposing viewpoints into consideration.

What about all the different people in this world? Maybe carbs are bad for someone, but maybe they are exactly what someone else needs.

Away from just the different types of people, what about all the different situations these different people go through. One person with back pain could use a deadlift to help relieve their pain while someone else finds deadlifts produce more pain.

This is where I think most of the information is going wrong. We are not looking at people as individuals or situations as different from one another.

Things are stated as right or wrong, good or bad and a lot of these things are tied to a product or a brand. When these products or brands gain popularity, they gain access to more exposure and more eyes on them.

Then people start believing things one way or another.

And don’t get me wrong, some of this information is GREAT for certain people. But there are individuals, and situations, and circumstances where some things do NOT make sense.

Let’s start cutting the shit on all this confusing information and take things on a case by case basis. We are individuals and we are all a little different!

Yes, It’s less profitable for companies because more work needs to be done.

But it’s more profitable to the people consuming the information.

We cannot make a statement true without knowing the information that will be affected by that statement.

It’s time to clear up this confusion!

In good health,

Jeff
