We all start an exercise program for our own reasons. Maybe it’s to look better, feel better, or just move better. Whatever the reason, if you’ve walked into the gym, you’ve decided that resistance training is part of the solution.
And here’s the good news: it works.
Any well-designed resistance training program will focus heavily on one thing: strength. And strength is one of those goals where the upside is huge, and the downside, when done well, is minimal.
So, what can building strength do for you?
Strength Changes the Look of Your Body
If you want to change your physique, strength will be a big piece to the puzzle.
Increasing your strength lets you build more muscle and decrease more body fat over time. Now, you can’t just skip the diet part or lifestyle parts of the equation, but strength plays a major role.
If you’ve ever said you wanted to “firm up” or “tone” your body then this is where you should be starting. The stronger a muscle is, the more potential It has to be a bigger muscle – which will improve the “firming” as well as the “toning”.
If you want to look a certain way, strength will get you there.
Strength FEELS Amazing
Being physically strong is one of those feelings that puts a smile on your face.
You are able to do the things you want – go for that big hike, move that piece of furniture, or hop into the family football game – whatever you might want your body ready to do, being strong will help you do It.
Having the ability to do the things you want FEELS better than just about anything. I hear from people all the time… “I want to be willing and able to do things for the rest of my life”.
Strength can help with that.
On top of that, being physically strong can help improve your mental health, mood, and energy. So yes, strength feels good just about in every sense of the word
Strength is Confidence
Building off what we just discussed above, being able to do the things you want is a huge component to the confidence you have in your body. When you are strong and fit, you KNOW you can do those things.
You don’t shy away from physically demanding tasks because you’ve built up a base where you know you can handle It.
That’s confidence.
And that ability can stay with you forever. It might look a little different decades down the line, but if you continue to build on your strength, the things you are able to do will amaze you.
And as things move down the line, your self efficacy is just that much greater. You don’t need to rely on others for as much because you’ve put in the work building your strength all the years It mattered most.
Strength is Never a Weakness
The strength you build now is your insurance policy for life.
You build It now and keep building It later to continue your growth year in and year out.
Want to move better? Build strength
Want to feel better: Build strength
Want to look a certain way: Build strength
Want to stay independent as you age: Build strength
There are very few things in life that aren’t improved by strength.
In good health,
Jeff
