The numbers mean everything right?
What the scale says, what the body fat percentage reads, and how much muscle mass you have.
To be honest, I like looking at the numbers. It’s one thing to feel progress, but It feels even better when all the numbers follow along with It.
But things don’t always read the way we want them to. Sometimes we feel great. Things are moving well, we feel strong, we feel empowered and we step on that scale and the numbers aren’t what we expected.
Now you feel down. Motivation is low. You question everything you have done the past month or two. So what if you never went on the scale? Would you still question It?
The problem I have with these readings is that they are a snapshot of one second of your day. So at 9:32am on Monday morning your numbers are this.
Well what did the numbers say on Friday at 10:48pm? Maybe everything was going in the right direction, maybe It was even worse. We will never know, and that’s what I want us to realize about these scales.
They are merely a tool we use to track progress over time. BUT it’s not the only thing we use, It is actually one of the last things we use to track progress. The way you feel and the changes you see before stepping on that scale are REAL.
Do not let the numbers discourage you from the work you have put in.
The opposite is also true. You may feel like crap. Tired, sore, bloated but you step on that scale and everything reads what you want. Well now what?
Do we keep following that path that makes you feel like crap or should we change some things up to make you FEEL better? Now I am not saying that the scale is all bad. They do have some great insights and feedback when needed. The point I am trying to get across is, the way you feel and the things you notice about your body without the assistance of a machine are real. Just because the scale doesn’t say you gained 5 pounds of muscle and lost 10 pounds of fat doesn’t mean you don’t see real change in your body. If you feel better, things are going in the right direction. If your body is changing in a way that you like, things are moving in the right direction.
No scale can tell you how you are supposed to feel, be objective with yourself before letting a machine tell you how things are going.
In good health,
Jeff
