Why Fitness?

For me fitness is simply exercise. Exercise to keep the body and mind healthy. Although it is simply that, I tend to take it much more seriously in a sense. I tend to make it a choice within a lifestyle. Now seeing that I am still young I do not let fitness define who I am, I use fitness as a tool to HELP define who I am and what I fancy.

I began lifting and exercising in about 8th grade (in college now). I didn’t like exercise at that age, I thought it was fun to an extent but it was mainly just to get ready for high school sports. That is really how it was for the next few years throughout high school and even a little into college. I decided to play hockey in college which kept me interested in lifting to still stay in shape. By the time college roles around I was definitely more advanced than I was when I first started but I still wasn’t really good at it, like I said I used fitness to stay in shape nothing more. The only thing I really hated in college was being one of the puny weak guys around all these big jacked dudes stealing weights out of my hands. What am I going to do, tell the 250 pound linebacker that the 135 pounds on the squat rack is mine and he better take his 405 power clean somewhere else! no I would just walk away and do some calf exercise because I didn’t know any better. So I started lifting a little more often, started experimenting with some supplements, and tried to make my time in the gym worth while instead of just saying “I went to the gym today”.

Ever since taking fitness a little more seriously I have been progressing at a pretty steady rate. I take a bodybuilding/powerlifting hybrid approach to my lifting but lately have been leaning a lot more towards powerlifting and have been hitting a good amount of PR’s throughout this winter on the main lifts. Recently I’ve been thinking about entering a local powerlifting meet for beginners which I clearly fall under seeing my total for the 3 main lifts would be embarrassing at higher level meet, also I have never done a meet before so this is something totally new for me but I do think I will end up doing it seeing that my training has been going well recently. Personally I’m not planning on doing a specific powerlifting prep for this meet seeing that I am very content with the way I am lifting right now and would like to keep it going. The reason I really want to do it is basically for the experience to see what it’s like to actually make this sport competitive (in a very light way).

On top of the rapid progression I’ve had in this fitness world of mine throughout the past 2 or so years I’ve been really interested in supplement (legal supplements, I don’t have the balls to do anything else). I’m basically talking about pre workout formulas, “pump” formulas, and even protein formulas. I just started mixing homemade pre workouts with raw ingredients that I got from Truenutrition.com. I didn’t just go into this blind, I did a lot of research and a a little bit of trial and error to see what stimulates me in the gym. The concoction I have going right now is a mix of very simple ingredients which I enjoy a lot. The reason I’m bringing the supplements into this conversation is I feel that it perfectly conveys my view of fitness, SIMPLICITY. K.I.S– Keep It Simple. This is what I’ve basically lived by since I started actually getting involved in this fitness stuff. Simplicity is key, keeping it simple has kept me engaged, involved, and eager to learn more in this fitness world and thats why I will preach all the time that people must K.I.S!!!

This is basically just an introduction to why and how fitness has become something that I’m pretty involved in, I have knowledge and content through what I go through involving fitness which I plan on sharing through these posts but really just wanted to start off by SIMPLY explaining how things have panned out for me thus far.
