5 Minutes

What can 5 minutes do for you?

If you are just getting started or still trying to get yourself into a consistent rhythm, try to follow the 5 minute rule.

I heard this idea from Jordan Syatt, who might be one of the best coaches in the world at getting his (effective) message across to massive amounts of people.

What he says is…

Commit yourself to 5 minutes. That’s all.

We can all give ourselves 5 minutes of work to start out on a fitness journey. Wake up, take a pee, get a sip of water, and head out for a 5 minute walk.

It’s your first step, and what does everyone say? Getting started is always the hardest part. So, we make It easy, very easy.

You don’t need to go balls to the wall, or commit to this every single day, all you have to do is that first 5 minute step.

Now, if you are out for your 5 minute walk, things might begin to feel good. You might get a little burst of energy and gain some motivation, that’s the sign to do a little bit more. Go an extra 5 or 10 or 20. Do what feels good in the moment.

This is the idea behind the 5 minute rule, just get started. Once things are moving forward you have gained so much momentum and it’s just that much easier to keep doing more, and more, and MORE!

And this doesn’t just go for walking, you can use this rule for anything that can help you get started.

Hiking

Stretching

Air squats

Push-ups

Lunges

Meditation

Swimming

Pick anything that helps you get the wheels turning. At this stage of the game we aren’t worried about the end result, hell, we aren’t even worried about tomorrow. Get your 5 minutes done TODAY then worry about the next day.

I had someone want to start adding in some extra work to their already packed schedule because they feel they can handle It, and I agree.

How did we start… 5 minute walk, once a week.

What did they do… 2 walks, both over 5 minutes.

How much better do we feel overachieving our goal than underachieving? ALOT. If we set out to do 3 long walks off the bat, It would be damn hard to hit that goal, and even harder to hit It week over week.

Instead, we set up a goal we know we can hit out of the park, and they did just that. Confidence, excitement, and motivation to do the same thing next week—> This is how the ball gets rolling.

Don’t stop the momentum!

In good health,

Jeff
