How Often Should You Be Working Out?

This is a question I get a lot being a trainer, “how many days a week should I workout?”. The only real answer I can give to someone I don’t really know too well is “I don’t know”. In all seriousness I cannot actually depict how many days a week you should be working out without knowing a little more about you. Some people have acute injuries that can lag on and effect how much they should actually be training, others might feel that they get tired very quickly when they work out for so long which is another factor that can play in.

When I first became a trainer I would have answered the question, “Every Damn Day!”. But now that I have grown a bit in the industry I know that this is not good for everyone, some people actually can benefit from this but others not so much. For someone who is very active and feels energized and ready to work out on a daily basis I would say taking one day a week for a day off would be most definitely beneficial. This will give that person time to rest obviously but not only that it will keep them from burning out mentally and physically in the gym. And ask anyone who follows this method of one day off a week, I guarantee one of their best workouts each week is the one right after a rest day.

Believe me not everyone, not evenly anywhere close to everyone will be at that level, this is mainly high end athletes and such that have sickly gross amounts of energy that most people, including myself, find mysterious. But for everyone else I feel that finding that right amount of days to be in the gym is a trial and error sort of deal. You have to find out what works for you, you don’t want to be killing yourself to the point where your eyes can’t stay open at work but also if you feel you are up for an extra workout on the weekend then hell yeah go for it. The point of me writing this post if to basically tell people that its not always the case that someone else can tell you how to listen to your body. You yourself will know what your body can handle and what it cannot, yes sometimes being pushed by other people is great but other times its good to have that strong intuition to be able to process what you’re body is telling you. For a final message on this short post I would say that if your body is up for then by all means go for it!!
