When we start our fitness journey we have an idea of what we want to get out of it. Progress breads results, results drive even more results.
The thing that separates the people with long term success and the ones who seem to yo-yo back and forth, is the idea of a never-ending journey.
There is no endgame in sight, the work is done no matter what for the overall benefit of that work. Other goals may be checked off along the way but those are checkpoints along the journey, never the end goal.
The second we put an end goal in place there is a stopping point. If I have no other driving force for this work other than to lose 50 pounds, when I get there the work is done.
Now let’s change the outlook to, I want to exercise to feel better, move better, and be as healthy as I can be for my family. Along the way I would love to be able to complete a 10k race and lose 10 pounds.
Well now we have some short term goals to motivate our daily efforts but the long term goals will stand far past those points. Putting a time limit on this work does two things. One It stresses us to work harder than we maybe should to reach that goal in a timely manner and two It creates a set barrier for maintaining the work you put in.
This is where the yo-yo comes into play. You can bust your ass and reach that goal in a certain amount of time. Now think of how much work and effort went in to get there. Now you have reached It and there is no motivational high to drive you in to push that hard again. So what will happen to those results?
They will slowly begin to teeder back to how things were before you started. After a few months of letting things slip back to old habits It’s time to get back on the horse and do It all over again. Another example where we need to find things that are sustainable for the long haul. I like to ask people if they can stick to a certain pattern for the rest of their life (It doesn’t mean you have to, but it’s a way of creating that longevity outlook before adding anything into the routine).
If your answer is no, then it’s time to re-evaluate.
Stay in this game for the long run and results will follow for the long run.
In good health,
Jeff

3.) Workout Programs
I have been toying with the idea of creating programs for anyone to use and follow. They would come complete with videos, descriptions, and program demos.
If you have any interest in a program such as this, reply “PROGRAM” to this email and I will get you the ideas that I have been thinking about.
