The Process of Perfection

I often discuss the idea of enjoying the process, and I think that is a necessary piece to the puzzle because this is where we are going to spend the majority of our time.

Now think of a place where you are doing everything absolutely perfect. You don’t miss a single training session, never break from your certain way of eating, sleeping 8 hours each night, drinking a gallon of water everyday, and whatever else goes into this mold.

Sounds great doesn’t It?

It just does not sound like the life I really want to live. Things come up, events happen, we are not robots expecting to stick to the perfect lifestyle routine every second of every day.

Which is why we cannot expect to live life in this type of mold, what is enjoyable about that? The process no longer becomes something we enjoy. And when we don’t enjoy something we are much less likely to stick with It.

The idea of enjoying what you are doing and where you are heading takes time but step one is finding what works for you. Most of us have busy lives and It’s not easy to up and change everything at once.

So, why don’t we try being really good at one thing at a time. Let’s pick something we know we can handle. Let’s look at this.

#1: Workouts

Maybe you really enjoy working out so you know you can lock in your workout consistency without much push back.

After a month or two you are very happy with your consistency and only miss sessions when necessary.

#2: Food

Now, you like eating nutritious food but getting this under control will be a tad bit harder than the workouts. So you get to work, start slow and move forward each week.

After two months your food choices have changed and the majority of the time you are eating things that make you feel really good. You still go out with friends, enjoy barbecues and parties, but most choices are on point.

#3: Sleep

For you, sleep feels quite natural although you are only getting 6 hours a night. You have been doing this for years but you know 8 hours would be more beneficial.

You start creating routines and habits around getting to bed earlier. Now after a few months you are averaging about 7.5 hours of sleep every night.

So we just changed 3 major things in our life, but It was not impossible and you are still doing the things you want to do.

This is why achieving attainable goals is a great starting place. Take It one step at a time, once you have It down, move onto the next thing.

Look back at the 6-7 months we just laid out. You have created a consistent gym schedule, eating habits are much better, and sleeping like a king. Nothing was over the top, It wasn’t taking over your life, and for the most part you enjoyed this process.

Are things perfect, no, and It’s not supposed to be.

Have there been dramatic changes, yes, over time things have changed A LOT.

But this is the path to perfection. It’s perfect for a life that’s anything but “perfect”. You make changes that are attainable, and you handle them just fine.

Aim for perfection in your own terms and like always, enjoy this process!

In good health,

Jeff
