Timelines suck.
Especially in health and fitness.
Most people who walk through our doors want the same thing: to be as fit and healthy as possible for as long as possible.
Yet timelines still come up all the time.
We set a deadline for ourselves to reach a goal without actually knowing how long it should take. Sometimes it’s tied to an event—a wedding, a reunion, summer. Other times it’s because we think something should take a certain amount of time.
The problem? Those timelines are usually guesses.
Every person is different. Every body is different. Every lifestyle, stress level, sleep schedule, work demand, and history is different. All of that plays a role in the results you see.
And when we miss an arbitrary deadline, we get discouraged.
When people get discouraged, they stop.
But pause for a second and ask yourself this:
If you don’t hit that goal by that exact date… what’s the worst that actually happens?
The world keeps spinning.
You’re still standing.
And the progress you did make doesn’t disappear.
The only time the work truly goes to waste is when you quit because things didn’t happen fast enough.
Forward progress is still progress.
Small wins still count.
Showing up, putting in effort, and seeing any result is a big deal, even if it’s not the result you imagined by a specific date.
The path forward isn’t dramatic. It’s simple:
Do the work.
Stick with it.
Repeat.
Eventually you realize the goal is coming, It just takes longer than your original timeline allowed for.
And the worst-case scenario? It’s almost never as bad as we make it out to be.
Missing a deadline doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re still in the process.
Look at what you’ve already accomplished. Without that work, you’d be even further away than you are right now.
So keep pushing.
And stop being so hard on yourself.
In good health,
Jeff
