Comparing yourself and the things you’ve done to other people is one of the least productive things anyone can do.
The perception of what everyone else is doing compared to what you have accomplished is skewed beyond belief and we find ourselves diving deeper and deeper into this hole. The more we compare the more we feel that our progress is underwhelming.
You don’t deserve that. What you deserve is the praise, excitement, and happiness of the things you HAVE accomplished. This is not the place to undervalue yourself because you think someone else might have done something “better”.
Right now we are seeing everyone else’s highlight reels. All the good and motivating things people accomplish every single day are put out there for us to read about. And honestly, I don’t mind that. Like we said before, we deserve to praise ourselves for our accomplishments. But, this is not the place to try and measure our success based on these things.
We cannot put ourselves up against the best things everyone else has to offer.
Progress is objectively positive, no matter how much or how little. If you make a stride in the right direction, you are doing things right, and that deserves to be recognized.
So instead of comparing, let’s celebrate the small wins, be happy with ourselves, and find ways to keep moving the needle closer to where we want to be.
Comparison kills.
In good health,
Jeff
