Visualize It

When my wife and I were moving back from Upstate New York all I wanted was to buy a house.

But not any house, a house with a garage so I could build a gym in It.

That was my only wish, and I thought about It everyday. I dreamt of being able to walk 50 feet and be inside my own personal gym. No crowds, music of my choosing, and having my dogs run around as I train.

I visualized what I wanted It to look like…the layout, equipment, even the lighting.

It was all built in my mind, now all I needed was the place to build It.

When we got back to MA, we lived in a few apartments but I had begun buying equipment for this garage gym I didn’t even own yet. Storing all this crap in my mom’s basement (she wasn’t too happy about that).

But, finally after a few years I had my house and the garage I had visualized so many times before. It was exactly what I hoped It would be and I used It everyday no matter how hot or how cold It may be.

The power of visualization is one of the strongest tools that we never use. I visualized this gym every single day until I made It happen.

Take a study done by Dr. Blaslotto in 1996. Taking three groups of basketball players where they measured the percentage of basketball free throws made.

1 group practiced free throws

1 group visualized making free throws.

1 group did nothing.

The group that practiced free throws for 30 minutes every day had almost the exact same improvement over 30 days as the group that simply visualized hitting the free throw without ever touching a ball.

Visualization works.

You have a goal right? For most of us, we want to reach that goal BAD but have a hard time buckling down for the long haul.

Visualize It.

Think about what you are going to do to get there. Visualize what it’s going to feel like to achieve that goal.

How are your workouts going to look?

What will you eat?

How is your body going to feel along the way?

These are the things we can control–our thought process along the way. The more you visualize, the closer things will appear. You will be able to see yourself doing the work and making changes to get to that place.

Try It this week, take a minute or two each day and visualize your goals. Mentally rehearse the things that you have to do this week to get a step closer to that end goal.

Think of everything:

Are you going to workout?

Are you going to walk?

What will you eat?

How will your sleep be?

How will your hydration be?

See how It works for you.

In good health,

Jeff
